Landscape Artist of the Year

Jul 2, 2024

Last month I enjoyed the most wonderful experience in North Wales, painting and filming Series 10 of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year!

My second year applying into the Sky Arts programme and although I wasn’t successful as a pod artist (I never expected to be), I was delighted to be offered a Wildcard artist place.

With 6 dates across 3 locations I chose Llanberis Lake on Wednesday 19th June and it was an absolutely stunning location looking across to the Snowdonia mountains.

I was actually there just over a year ago on holiday with my husband and miniature Dachshund, never thinking I would be back so soon.

We had to arrive early for registration at 7am.  The day was so well organised and we were made to feel very welcome.

All three judges artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, curator Kathleen Soriano and art historian Kate Bryan wandered the Wildcard artist set-up throughout the day.

Presenter Stephen Mangan spent a lot of time chatting to us all, but I also had the privilege of being interviewed by him and we had such a laugh primarily at myself.

It all started when at 7am the Welsh midge were out in force and I was the only artist to think to bring a midge net.

Thankfully I didn’t need to wear it all day as the breeze had picked up, but it was the starting point of my natter with the lovely Stephen.

I can’t share any photos of the paintings or tell you the results, so we all just have to wait for the new series to be aired in January 2025.
